Erik D. Diaz is a highly acclaimed, award winning scenic designer and production designer. His work has been seen in theatres all across the US. In addition to being a theatre designer, Erik has worked in a variety of mediums including opera, TV, film, music videos, and interior design. 

Erik’s creativity and attention to detail have been praised by critics across the country. His design for Billy Elliot: The Musical won the BroadwayWorld Best Scenic Design Award in 2016, in addition having multiple other nominations for Peter and the StarcatcherCarrie: The Musical (Playhouse on the Square), 9 to 5: The Musical (Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center), and Henry V (Kingsmen Shakespeare Co.). He has also won the Independent Reviewers of New England (IRNE) Award for his design of Between Riverside and Crazy at SpeakEasy Stage Company in 2018, and has been nominated for his designs for Doubt: A Parable at Ocean State Theatre Company,  Lumberjacks In Love at Greater Boston Theatre Company, and The Drowsy Chaperone at Turtlelane Playhouse. The productions of The Book of Grace and The Brother/ Sister Plays, which he designed, both won IRNE Awards for Best Production. In 2010, his props design experience led to involvement with the world premiere of the groundbreaking opera The Death And The Powers, for which he created specialty props. Additionally, Erik’s television credits include production and design coordination for the hit HGTV show, Designed to Sell.

He has had worked with numerous companies across the country including: Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center, SpeakEasy Stage Company, Boston Conservatory, Connecticut Rep, Ocean State Theatre Company, Omaha Theatre Company, Sierra Repertory Theatre, Penobscot Theatre, Seven Angels Theatre Company, New Repertory Theatre, Kingsmen Shakespeare Company, A.R.T., and North Shore Music Theatre. 

Erik’s theatrical credits include Disney and Cameron Mackintosh’s Mary Poppins (CSFAC), A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Kingsmen Shakespeare Company), Marry Me A Little (New Repertory Theatre), She Kills Monsters (Company One), The King and I - with Lorenzo Lamas and Guys and Dolls (North Shore Music Theatre),  Doubt (Ocean State Theatre Company), In The Heights (Children’s Musical Theatre of San Jose), Debbie Does Dallas: The Musical (Playhouse on the Square), Moonlight and Magnolias (Playhouse on Park), James and the Giant Peach (Omaha Theatre Company), Red White & Tuna (Sierra Repertory Theatre),  Miracle on 34th Street (Stoneham Theatre Company)

Currently, Erik is the Director of Technical Theatre and Design at the Noble and Greenough School in Dedham, Massachusetts. Previously, he served as Assistant Professor of Theatre Design and the Head of Design for the theatre program at California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks, California.
